Abstract

Azodicarbonamide is prepared by oxidizing hydrazodicarbonamide with at least a stoichiometric amount of alkali metal chlorate while maintaining the reaction temperature between 60 DEG and 105 DEG C. Preferably the reaction is conducted in the presence of a catalytic amount of a vanadium salt, vanadic acid or vanadic oxide.
