970,712. Indicators for switches. SIEMENSELECTROGERATE A.G. Nov. 25, 1960 [Nov. 27, 1959], No. 40688/60. Heading H2B. [Also in Divisions F4, G4 and H5] In domestic equipment, such as an electric or gas cooker or a washing machine, having switch position indicator devices which appear in observation windows 10-13 in the front of the equipment and are illuminated by a light source disposed within the equipment, the spaces between the windows are also illuminated when the equipment is switched on, by said light source or by another light source disposed within the equipment. In a cooker, Fig. 2, an observation window 20 for each switching position is contained in a plate 19 and an indicating drum 21 is arranged beneath the window on the shaft 18<SP>1</SP> of the switch knob 18. A transparent element 22 of trapesoidal cross-section is mounted above the plate 19 so that a tubular lamp 26, which is switched on when any of the cooker switches is switched on, illuminates the entire plate 19 together with the section of the indicating drum 21 which is visible in the window 20. A number of modifications are described (Figs. 3-11, not shown), in which:- (a) The windows 20 are formed in the lower surface of the element 22, which may be rectangular in cross-section, by rendering the surface opaque by roughening or by applying paint except at the windows. (b) The drum 21 comprises insets of transparent material which may have fluoreseing properties, and the support 25 for the lamp 26 is coated internally with white paint and is so bent that the interior of the drum 21 is illuminated. (c) One lamp is used to provide a uniform diffused illumination over the whole plate 19 while other lamps provide a strong illumination over the section adjacent the switch actually in use. (d) The element 22 consists of a number of sections the junctions between which are made opaque by painting or by interposing sheet metal strips. (e) The lamp 26 is structurally combined with the element 22. Specification 913,886 is referred to.
