Abstract

970,618. Forage harvesters. HARRISON, McGREGOR & GUEST Ltd. Sept. 13, 1963 [Sept. 29, 1962], No. 36999/62. Heading A1F. In a flail-type forage-harvester having a flail-housing 26 surrounding the flails and communicating upwardly with a discharge shoot 27, the flail-shaft 12 is supported in pedestal-bearings 13 outside the housing 26, openings 29, which are larger than the bearings, being provided in the end-walls 28 of the housing to provide unobstructed axial air-inlets to the flails. The sides 10 of the housing extend close to ground-level and a rear plate 30 extends similarly. At the front an adjustable plate 31 can be raised and lowered by means of an apertured stay 35. The flail-shaft 12 (Fig. 2) is mainly of square cross-section and carries four L-shaped pressings 14-17 which are bolted to it and to plates 19-22 sandwiched between them. The pressings and plates extend throughout the length of the shaft 12 within the housing and constitute fanblades. Each plate at intervals carries several curved blades 23 attached by links 25 to holes in the plates. The blades 23 on the various plates are staggered to produce a continuous cut.
