Abstract

970,593. Roof racks. E. F. PETERS, and H. G. C. PETERS. Dec. 20, 1962 [Dec. 20, 1961], No. 45582/61. Heading B7J. [Also in Division E2] The leg 2 of a luggage carrier has a flattened end 4 secured in the roof gutter 3 of a car by a clamp comprising a bolt 7, passing through the leg end 4 and preferably permanently secured thereto; an angled member 1, which may be reinforced or ribbed and engages the underside of the gutter 3 and the side of the leg 2; a spacing member 8; and a knurled nut 9. In a modification the bolt is located in a projection on a member welded to the flattened end 4 and engaging in the gutter, the projection being parallel to the portion of the member 1 through which the bolt passes, the spacing member in this case being flat. According to a further modification the projection may be wedgeshaped and welded to the leg 2. Specification 834,050 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 805,766.
