Abstract
An adherent, high dielectric constant, polycrystalline coating is applied to a surface by (a) injecting solid crystalline particles of barium titanate or strontium titanate into a gaseous stream being fed into the flame of a continuous flame generating device; (b) maintaining the flame at a temperature and the residence time of said particles in said flame for a period sufficient to heat said particles to a softened state; and (c) impinging the hot particles on to the surface to form a polycrystalline deposit of the particles as an adherent coating on said surface. The flame generating device may be a flame-spray torch of the oxy-hydrogen or oxy-acetylene type. The substrate may be of steel, nickel or "Inconel" (Registered Trade Mark) or non-metallic material and may be pre-heated; it is preferably grit-blasted before spraying.ALSO:An adherent, high dielectric constant, polycrystalline coating is applied to a surface by (a) injecting solid crystalline particles of barium titanate or strontium titanate into a gaseous stream being fed into the flame of a continuous flame generating device, (b) maintaining the flame at a temperature and the residence time of said particles in said flame for a period sufficient to heat said particles to a softened state, and (c) impinging the hot particles on to the surface to form a polycrystalline deposit of the particles as an adherent coating on said surface.
