Abstract

969,860. Electric cables. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS - G.m.b.H. Aug. 30, 1961, No. 31214/61. Heading H1A. Insulation material for electric conductors comprises a layer of hot-vulcanizing, and a layer of cold-vulcanizing silicone rubber, the layers being separated by a layer or coating of esters of silicic or titanic acid. The hot-vulcanizing layer may contain a silica gel as filler and the cold-vulcanizing layer silicic acid esters of mono- or multi-functional aromatic alcohols as slow-acting cross-linking agents. The rubber layers may be in strip form and wound helically on the conductor, the separating layer being applied as a solution. Typical compositions are: (a) for the hot-vulcanizing layer, dimethyl polysiloxane containing 30% silica gel and 2-3% benzoyl peroxide; (b) for the cold vulcanizing layer, dimethylpolysiloxane containing 30-40% filler such as chalk or deatomaceous earth, 1-10% of butyl alcohol-silicic acid ester, and 0.1-2% of dibutyl dilauryl stannate, and (c) for the intermediate coating, a solution in aceto-acetic ester of equal parts of tetraethyl silicate and dibutyl titanate.
