969,474. Travelling-wave tubes. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 30, 1960 [Jan. 6, 1960], No. 406/60. Heading H1D. A travelling-wave tube delay line comprising bars, as at 3 in the ladder type line of Fig. 1 or as shown in the Karp type line of Fig. 2, or rings, as at 4 in the ring-bar helix type line of Fig. 3, has the bars or rings increasing in thickness outwardly from an intermediate point in order to improve heat dissipation. The tapering may be in the longitudinal direction of the bars, as in Fig. 1, or in the tranvserse direction as in Fig. 2, or in both of these directions. With the line of Fig. 2 the electron beam or beams adjacent the bars may be V-shaped or one face of the surface containing the bars may be flat.
