Abstract
969,216. Printing machines. GREENWOOD ENGINEERING CO. Inc. Jan. 11, 1961 [June 10, 1960], No. 1243/61. Heading B6C. An installation for manufacturing box blanks comprises a feeder unit A, Fig. 1, printer units I . . . V, Fig. 2, and a delivery unit B. During the course of manufacture each blank passes through any required selection of the units I . . . V prior to entering the delivery unit. Each unit I . . . V is mounted on a wheel assembly such that it may be motor driven along tracks t 1 . . . t 5 , Fig. 2, to a main track T from whence it can be moved along this latter track until it is in operative position adjacent other printer units, selected from the five available, and the feeder unit A which is fixed at one end of the track T. The motor-driven delivery unit, which is mounted on a wheel assembly and remains on the main track and carries appropriate creasing and slotting rollers, is moved into a position adjacent the aligned feeder and printer units and carries a manually operated hydraulic pump arrangement 197, 198, 200 which, when operated, causes cogwheels 50a forming part of the wheel assembly, and which are in engagement with racks R comprising the track T, to rotate and thus force the unit B in pressure contact with the feeder and printer units. Each printer unit carries the necessary printing and impression cylinders and inking mechanism and the wheel assembly comprises wheels 102, 103, Fig. 3, for travel on the rails r 1 , r 2 of the tracks t 1 . . . t 5 and cogwheels 50 and supporting wheels 51 for movement along the track T. Through an arrangement of pivoted framing members 100 and a crank 145 an electric motor 155 suspended from beneath the unit is used to either lower the cogwheels 50 and supporting wheels 51 on to the track T when the unit is located thereabove or raise them from the track T when it is desired to lower the wheels 102, 103 on to the selected track t 1 . . . t 5 . The drive from a motor 75, Fig. 7, to the cogwheels 50 is effected through a slip-clutch 68.
