Abstract

In a process for producing planographic printing plates an aluminium plate carrying a silver image formed thereon by the silver salt diffusion process is smeared with a lacquer which is an acidic aqueous emulsion of a hydrophobic film-forming resin and which contains an organic compound having SH-, NH-, CS- or SeH- groups. The lacquer may also contain synthetic ester waxes, partially saponified ester waxes or shellac waxes: thickeners such as cellulose and its ethers and esters, polysaccharides and polyvinyl alcohol: and di- or tri-phenyl methane, polymethine or xanthene dyestuffs. The lacquer may be acidified with a C5 or lower aliphatic fatty or hydroxy acid. Specified resins are phenol-formaldehyde resins, preferably novalacs, and natural shellac resins. Over a 100 organic compounds having SH-, NH-, CS- or SeH- groups are listed including urea derivatives, compounds of the general formulae <FORM:0969072/C3/1> and other heterocyclic compounds. The use of plates so obtained in the process described and claimed in Specification 913,591 is disclaimed. Specifications 699,892, 708,065, 753,434, 816,237, 851,816, 940,169, 942,822 and 942,823 also are referred to.ALSO:In a process for producing planographic printing plates an aluminium plate carrying a silver image formed thereon by the silver salt diffusion process is smeared with a lacquer which is an acidic aqueous emulsion of a hydrophobic film-forming resin and which contains an organic compound having SH-, NH-, CS- or SeH-groups. The lacquer may also contain synthetic ester waxes, partially saponified ester waxes or shellac waxes; thickeners such as cellulose and its ethers and esters, polysaccharides and polyvinyl alcohol: and di- or tri-phenyl methane, polymethine or xanthene dyestuffs. The lacquer may be acidified with a C5 or lower aliphatic fatty or hydroxy acid. Specified resins are phenol-formaldehyde resins, preferably novolacs, and natural shellac resins. Over a 100 organic compounds having SH-, NH-, CS- or SeH- groups are listed including urea derivatives, compounds of the general formulae <FORM:0969072/C4-C5/1> and other heterocyclic compounds. The use of plates so obtained in the process described and claimed in Specification 913,591 is disclaimed. Specifications 699,892, 708,065, 753,434, 816,237, 851,816, 940,169, 742,822 and 942,823 also are referred to.
