Abstract

968,983. Bobbins. ULSTER PLASTICS Ltd. Dec. 30, 1960 [Jan. 14, 1960], No. 1347/60. Heading B8M. [Also in Division D1] A centre 5 to support a yarn package during wet-processing, drying and subsequent unwinding operations, comprises a truncated cone having a central inner bore, complementary formations top and bottom to enable the centres to be stacked, and apertures 6, 7, 7a in the wall of the cone, the apertures including inclined slots 7, 7a at the upper and lower ends, respectively, of the cone, the slots 7 being oppositely inclined, as shown, to the slots 7a, so that when two centres are stacked the slots 7 of one centre intersect with the slots 7a of the other centre to form holes therethrough. The bore of the centre may be cylindrical or slightly tapered and is stepped at 10 to enable the centres to be stacked. The outer surface is roughened at 11 and longitudinal threads 12 are provided to grip the yarn wound thereon. The perforations 6 may be radial or as shown in Fig. 2. The centre may be made of a thermosetting or a thermoplastic synthetic resin. Polypropylene is specified.
