Abstract

968,108. Typewriters. SPERRY RAND CORPORATION. Aug. 3, 1961 [Oat. 31, 1960], No, 28303/61. Heading B6F. [Also in Division G4] A key 1 moves a fluid jet-pipe 9 so that the nozzle is opposite a control signal input 16 to a fluid amplifier. When the key is depressed, the fluid jet from pipe 9 enters input 16 and diverts fluid streaming under pressure from chamber 18 so that pressure in output channel 19 is higher than that in output channel 20. When the key is released, a spring 24 and stop 25 locates the pipe nozzle opposite an input 15 and the jet deflects fluid from chamber 18 so that pressure in output 20 is higher than that in output 19. The changes in pressure in outputs 19 and 20 may be sensed to actuate a print or punch member or enter data into a storage register. In Fig. 3 is shown a bi-stable amplifier 17<SP>1</SP> in which a fluid stream once directed into one of the outputs 19<SP>1</SP>, 20<SP>1</SP> will continue to flow in this output after the control signal is removed. When the key is depressed, the fluid jet from pipe 9 will direct the stream from chamber 18<SP>1</SP> to output 19<SP>1</SP>. When the key is released, the jet will be directed into duct 15<SP>1</SP> where it is recirculated to the pipe 9. It is stated that this embodiment is more suitable for use with a full keyboard. A reset signal appears at input 30 and may occur after an adding operation initiated by an add key.
