Abstract
967,940. Turbine and compressor blade fixing. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 22, 1962 [Aug. 24, 1961], No. 32242/62. Heading F1T. A stator vane assembly for axial flow compressor or turbine comprises an inner shroud and an outer shroud, the outer shroud being formed by an inner annular band and an outer annular band of circumferentially overlapping joined segments, some of which have at least one aperture for receiving a vane. An annular stator vane assembly 1, Fig. 1, has an inner shroud 2 and an outer shroud 30 having inner and outer annular bands 35, 36 positioned on stator vanes 10 to 14. The outer band 36 is formed by circumferentially joining adjacent segments such as 40, 41 having an overlapping area 51. An aperture 61 in the segment 41, Fig. 2, is machined to receive the stator vane end 21. The segments may be joined by brazing along serpentine lines to give a variable overlap 70 and provide stiffening ribs 80. Each outer segment may have more than one aperture to receive the vane ends or certain segments may be formed without apertures. The construction facilitates assembly of the stator.
