Abstract
967,920. Addressing - machines; feeding address plates. RENA BUROMASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H. Aug. 15, 1962 [Aug. 19, 1961], No. 31233/62. Headings B6B, B6C and B6D. A hectographic addressing-machine for printing from address plates comprises a reciprocating impression roller which co-operates with a plane counter-pressure element, and also serves as a damping roller to supply moistening liquid to the material to be printed. Address plates D, Fig. 5, are fed in succession along a guide path 4 towards the left, to a printing position below the counter-pressure element 14, in such a way that there is a plate in printing position only during the second part of each machine cycle. In the initial position, the impression and damping roller 12, Fig. 2, is in contact with a constantly rotating roller 19 receiving liquid from a roller 20. The roller 12 is then moved by a crank mechanism 17 up an incline 23 and along guide rails 14<SP>1</SP> so as to contact and moisten a sheet 11 to be printed on. A hectographic address plate D is then moved into position below the sheet 11 and the roller 12 is moved back to its initial position to produce the impression. The counter-pressure element 14, Figs. 2, 4 and 5, is raised and lowered within a housing 9 by a toggle mechanism 32 actuated by a cam disc 40, being lowered into operative position during the moistening and the impression strokes of the roller 12, and raised to allow arrival and removal of the plates. Printing-surfaces.-The address plates are provided with slots 44 near their leading edges. Feeding address plates.-The slots 44 are engaged by dogs 45, Figs. 5 and 8, on a member 46 secured to a substantially square member 48 pivoted on an axle 49 mounted in a U-stirrup 51 pivoted on an axle 52. During each machine cycle, the stirrup 51 is oscillated once in each direction by a lever 57 on a drive shaft 58. In normal operation, rollers 59 run on upper guide strips 60 during the leftward stroke, thus feeding a plate D from the bottom of a supply magazine, whereby another plate further forwards is moved into printing position. At the end of the stroke, leaf springs 54 acting on the member 48 force the rollers 59 downwards on to lower guide strips 61 extending further to the left and to the right than the strips 60. The dogs 45 are thus disengaged from the slots 44 for the return stroke, at the end of which the springs force the dogs up into the slots of the next plate. To prevent the feed of a plate, a conical button is pressed to move the strip 60 to the right a distance a to prevent raising of the dogs. A second stirrup and dog arrangement feeds plates from printing position. In this case, shifting of the upper strips to the left results in a plate being returned to printing position for repeat printing, the plate feed being prevented at this time as described above.
