Abstract

The invention comprises neutral piperazine gentisates of the formula <FORM:0967425/C1/1> where R and R1 are the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-4 alkyl group. These salts may be prepared by reacting in an inert solvent medium gentisic acid with a piperazine of the formula <FORM:0967425/C1/2> They may also be prepared by reacting in an inert solvent a soluble metallic salt of gentisic acid with a soluble salt of piperazine of formula II. Pharmaceutical compositions having antirheumatic, antigout and anthelmintic activity for oral or parenteral administration comprise the above salts together with a pharmaceutical carrier. The compositions may be formulated as tablets, pills, dispersible powders, granules capsules, syrups, elixirs, emulsions, suspensions or solutions.
