[Also in Divisions E2, F2 and G6] A linear stepping type motor for inserting and withdrawing a nuclear reactor control rod (see Division G6) comprises a castellated steel bar 76 encircled by windings 75 which can be energized singly or in selected groups of two to set up a moving magnetic field, thereby moving the shaft 76 up or down.
