In a float operated electric switch, similar to the arrangement described in Specification 578, 786, a float arm o turns a shaft j through gearing q, r and magnetic coupling s, t, as the level of the liquid lowers the float so that mercury switches a, b, c, mounted on cam followers c<SP>1</SP>, d, e are actuated by cam lobes k, m, k<SP>1</SP>, m <SP>1</SP> and k<SP>11</SP>, m<SP>11</SP> on the shaft j to close electric circuits. The cam followers c<SP>1</SP>, d, e pivoted on a rod g are moved by fingers h, i straddling the shaft j and engaging cam lobes k, m &c. Initially leads u, v of switch c are connected and may close a circuit to an indicator lamp (not shown). Then as the float drops to position B, switch c is tilted to open the circuit and switch b tilted to close a second circuit, finally when the float is in position C, switch a is tilted to close a third circuit, switch b remaining closed and switch c open.
