Abstract

966,909. Semi-conductor rectifiers. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. Feb. 13, 1961 [March 21, 1960], No. 9869/60. Heading H1K. In a sealed dry plate rectifier assembly, rectifier plates 5, Fig. 2, e.g. Se plates, are accommodated in recesses 4 (see also Fig. 1) in a first metal casing member 2, rectifier plates in adjacent recesses being connected in series by means of connectors 6 and spring connectors 8, the casing being completed by a second metal casing member 3, the edges 9 of which are folded over the edges of member 2 to clamp the two casing members together, and the rectifier plates and connectors being electrically insulated from the casing by heat-conducting plastic coatings on the interior or both sides of the casing members and/or sheets of insulating material such as silicone impregnated woven glass fibre cloth interposed between rectifier plates &c. and the casing. The easing members may be of sheet aluminium. Terminals 7 are brought out through indentations at one or both ends of the casing, where additional insulation may be provided. Channels between the recesses 4 may permit connectors 6 to be flat. Fixing holes 10, which may be strengthened with tubular rivets, enable the casing to be mounted in heat conducting contact with a chassis &c.
