Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a manifold support plate, made of graphite and installed on both ends of a laminated unit cell, to be prevented from any abrasion and breakdown by providing a plate sliding member between the above manifold support plate and a metal electrode used for taking out electric power. CONSTITUTION:A separator 2, an air electrode 3, a matrix and a fuel electrode are laminated to make a unit cell, which is retained with a manifold support plate 7 made of a graphite plate. A metal electrode 9 made of copper or the like is installed via a plate sliding member 14 made of a soft conductive material such as an expanded graphite plate possessing a small coefficient of friction and flexibility, and pressed and fixed to the plate 11 via an insulating plate 12. A manifold 6 provided on the outermost periphery of the laminated unit cell, and the manifold support plate 7 are assembled with a packing 8 interposed between them, and the manifold 6 is fixed with a metal clamping band.
