Abstract
966,628. Induction meters. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 24, 1963 [April 24, 1962], No. 15588/62. Heading G1Q. In an A.C. induction meter such as a watt-hour meter, the overload shunt associated with the current magnet includes a magnetic component mounted in the path between the poles of said magnet and slidable towards and away from the mid-section of said path to adjust the effective cross-section of the shunt in said path. As shown, the poles 1, 2 of a laminated current magnet are shunted by a magnetic strip 7, a non-magnetic strip 10 being interposed. The shunt path also comprises a channel-shaped member 11 of soft iron or alloy, whose flanges 12 are bent over at 12a to provide a passage for a slidable soft iron member 13 of rectangular section which is spring-urged against flange-portions 12a. One end of member 13 is tapered, adjustment being made by varying the position of this tapered end relative to the midsection of the shunt path, where member 11 and strip 7 may be apertured, as at 15. Alternatively the passage in 11 may be cylindrical the member 13 being cylindrical with a conical end. A further overload compensator 16 may also be provided.
