[Also in Divisions E1 and F2] In apparatus in which, as in the parent Specification, either of a pair of hydraulic motors 1, 2 driving mining machinery is put into operation by the displacement of a main valve 3 from its central, neutral position, and in which a main pump 4 feeds the motors and an auxiliary pump 6 discharges into the low pressure side of the pump 4 and also acts to retract spring-loaded plungers 5, 5<SP>1</SP> to enable the main valve to be displaced, a valve 40 normally allows the discharge from the pump 6 to leak to sump through restricted passages 41 so that pressure is maintained on the plungers 5, 5<SP>1</SP>. In the event of an overload on either of the motors 1, 2, giving rise to a pressure sufficient to open either of a pair of overload valves 46, 46<SP>1</SP>, the flow through a conduit 47 and restriction in one end of the valve 40 depresses the latter against a spring 45 to provide unrestricted venting of the delivery from the pump 6 with consequent release of the plungers 5, 5<SP>1</SP> so that the main valve is returned to the neutral position. The main valve is also returned to neutral in the event of failure of pressure from the pump 6.
