A four-wheel drive conversion for a tractor comprises dividing the tractor into a front portion including the engine and gear-box and a rear portion including the rear axle differential 8, raising the front portion, and inserting between the portions a gear assembly 3 which connects the gear-box output shaft 5 to the rear axle differential 8 and to a front differential 10 included in a replacement front wheel set having wheels of the same diameter as the rear wheels. The gear assembly 3 includes an upper gearwheel 4 for connection to the ge-arbox output shaft 5, an intermediate gear-wheel 6 driving the rear differential 8, and a lower gear-wheel 9 driving the front differential 10 through a cardan shaft 11, the interaxial distance between the gears 4 and 6 corresponding to the difference in radius of the original and replacement front wheels. The gear lever 12 of the tractor is mounted on the gear assembly 3.
