Abstract

966,108. Thermal regenerators. H. BRANDT. Jan. 6, 1961 [Jan. 8, 1960; Dec. 2, 1960], No. 699/61. Heading F4K. In a rotary thermal regenerator, the heat transfer mass in the zone which is subjected to temperatures below the dew point of the cooled gas, comprises elements 1 with passages 2 therein and having smooth water- and dustrepellant surfaces. The remaining portion (not shown) of the mass comprises closely-spaced plate-like elements, e.g. of metal. The elements 1 may be made of ceramic material or of metal coated with a water-repellant substance such as a silicone or, in the case of a ceramic element, the waterrepellant surface may be formed by an applied or burnt-on glaze. As a further alternative the element may be made of a synthetic material on a silicone basis. The element shown is an extruded ceramic member. A plurality of the elements may be arranged in layers at least at the " cold " end of the regenerative mass.
