965,682. Valve frequency-selective amplifying circuits. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Aug. 15, 1961 [Sept. 5, 1960], No. 30499/60. Heading H3W. In a variably tuned amplifier, comprising a grounded-grid stage 3 operating into a transmission line 1, 2, the far end of which is connected to a tuning capacitor 4, an output is taken from two points Y, Z on one side of the line spaced on either side of a point X which is a voltage node at the mid-frequency of the tuning range. The points Y, Z are so chosen that the voltage between them does not substantially vary over the tuning range, and they are connected to a load 7 by means of a " balun " 8. This may, as shown, comprise a bifilar wound choke, or alternatively a length of balanced line located within a quarter-wavelength trough which is earthed. Variation of bandwidth over the tuning range may be prevented by means of a resistor 9 connected across the line at the point X. Specifications 909,019 and 965,683 are referred to.
