A slide projector with step-by-step magazine feed has two pawls for engaging the magazine rack and means for allowing only one at a time to engage the rack, the pawls being mounted on a member reciprocable through a distance equal to a feed step and adapted to move the magazine in opposite directions. As shown in Fig. 7, the reciprocable member 53 is driven via a pin by a recessed portion 58 of a groove 57 in a rotating cam member 24 fast with a motor driven shaft (not shown) which also rotates an eccentric element controlling the slidechanging mechanism. (The projector as described is adapted to project slides having either of two sizes contained in two separate magazines on either side of the projector housing, slides of different size entering the projector through apertures displaced relatively along the optical axis. The present Specification is closely identical with Specifications 965,558 and 965,559 and the Abridgments of the former give details of slide change and control mechanisms not relevent to the invention as claimed in the present Specification.) Slidably mounted on member 53 by means of pin- and-slot connections 60, 61 is a member 59 whose lower part engages two spring-loaded pawls 64, 66 and is urged by tension spring 62 to pivot pawl 64 about pin 63 out of engagement with the rack 52 of a magazine 51 and allow pawl 66 to engage it. The situation is reversed by energizing a magnet 36 to move member 59 against spring 62 into the position shown.
