Abstract

A perforated sheet of a high molecular weight synthetic polymeric substance which is stable in boiling water is coated on one side with an uninterrupted coating of a polar high molecular weight substance which is soluble in boiling water. The perforated sheet may be made of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, polyester or polycarbonate, while the water-soluble coating may be of polyvinyl alcohol, amylose, amylose ethers, amylose esters, carboxy-methyl cellulose or gelatin, and may be mixed with 25-50% by weight of a polyhydric alcohol, e.g. glycol, polyglycols, glycerol, pentols and hexols. The coated product may be used to form packages in which food such as rice, rolled oats, spaghetti and macaroni may be packed and cooked in the package.
