Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0963830/C1/1> (wherein Ar represents an aryl or heterocyclic aromatic radical having one or two aromatic rings of 5 or 6 ring atoms and optionally carrying one or more substituents, Y represents a C2- 6 alkylene radical having its two valency bonds on different carbon atoms, Y1 represents a direct linkage or a C1- 6 alkylene radical, Q represents an unsubstituted or substituted monocarbocyclic aryl radical or a C1- 6 alkyl radical, Z is S, SO or SO2, and each of R1 and R2 represents a hydroge atom or a C1- 6 alkyl radical) and pharmaceutical compositions containing them together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, and the preparation of the compounds by reacting an azomethine of the general formula: ArCH=N-Y-O-Y1-Q (advantageously prepared in situ from an aldehyde ArCHO and an amine Q-Y1-O-Y-NH2) with an a -mercaptoacetic acid of the general formula: HSC(R1)(R2)COOH to form a product in which Z is S and, if desired, oxidizing this to a compound in which Z is SO or SO2. The pharmaceutical compositions, which have psychomotor stimulatory and anticonvulsant properties, are preferably in forms suitable for oral administration, e.g. tablets or capsules.
