Abstract
963,802. Storage systems. H. INGOLD. March 12, 1963 [March 14, 1962], No. 9730/63. Heading B8E. In a storage system comprising a row of movable storage racks between any neighbouring pair of which a service gangway may be opened, the racks are moved by a reversible motor 13 which drives one or more endless chains 17 each of which is secured to one end of a reciprocable rod 20 which in turn is secured to the end rack I but extends beyond it along the row. Each of the other racks II, III &c. carries a lever 7 by which a catch lever 11 may be engaged with a corresponding catch element (not shown) on the rod 20. Adjacent racks contact each other at buffers 5, 6 and the spacing of the catch elements on the rod is such that when the rack furthest from rack I of a set of consecutive racks to be moved together is latched to the rod, all the racks of this set effectively form a rigid unit. Preferably there are two parallel endless chains and two catch levers 11, operated from by common control lever 9, engage the respective chains. There may be a fixed rack B at the drive end of the row situated either above the drive mechanism as shown or between it and rack I. In the latter case the length of the chain run should be increased by the width of one rack.
