Abstract

A shoe stiffener-either a toe puff or a counter stiffener-comprises a base sheet of thermoplastic material which is rigid at room temperature, becomes flauid and mouldable when heated above a certain temperature and reverts back to its original condition at room temperature and has on at least one of its sides a film of a thermoplastic material which is rigid and cohesive at ambient temperatures and tacky and less cohesive when heated above the said certain temperature. Different materials e.g. polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride and polyvinyl chloride acetate, for the base sheet, and corresponding adhesives are described.
