Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A refrigerator gas compressor comprises a cylinder 6 in which is disposed a piston 7 and the outer end of which is closed by a transverse valve plate 16 having inlet ports 17 and outlet ports 18 extending therethrough with which are associated flap valves 20 and 21, the ports being inclined throughout their length to the normal to the valve plate such that gas leaving each port flows lengthwise over its associated valve towards the free end of the latter whereby the flow of gas is facilitated and valve bounce is minimized. The piston 7 is driven by an electric motor through a drive shaft 11, an eccentric 10 and a connecting rod 9. The ports are preferably parallel-sided and their angle of inclination may be from 20 degrees to 65 degrees, preferably 45 degrees to 55 degrees. The outlet valves 21 are provided with a stop member 23.
