An extensible strap comprises two layers of links in staggered formation joined by connecting members having arms extending into the link casings and characterized by the sheet metal blank of each link casing of at least one layer having at least one tongue bent out of the plane of a wall of the link casing to form a leaf spring extending transversely to the direction of expansion of the strap. The strap comprises two layers of link casings 10, 11 connected by pairs of connecting members 12 and having one or more tongues 20 forming spring means integral with one wall of the link casings. The link casings are made from sheet metal which is either cut so that one or more parts form spring means or the sheet metal has extended portions which when bent form the spring means within the link casings. The spring or springs may either extend from one or both ends towards the middle of the link casings or from the middle in opposite directions towards the outside edges of the link casings. Two links, Fig. 11, may be formed from one piece of sheet metal and tongues 27, 27<SP>1</SP> and 28, 28<SP>1</SP> cut and bent to form a pair of leaf springs in each link casing. The connecting members may be U-shaped and may be shaped to clamp the springs resiliently. Two members may be joined together. One arm of a member may have a circular cross-section for insertion into a link casing without a spring. When the connecting member has the form of a U or Z frame, the lower and upper walls of two adjacent link casings are cut short to accommodate the connecting member. The connecting members may be retained in the link casings by tabs bent over the ends of the link casings or by a cover placed on the link casing.
