Abstract

963,100. Internal shoe - drum brakes. DEUTSCHE PERROT-BREMSE G.m.b.H. April 10, 1963 [April 13, 1962], No. 14362/63. Heading F2E. An hydraulic internal shoe-drum brake comprises two brake shoes 6, 7, each bearing at one of their ends against a projection on the back plate or on a brake shoe carrier 4, 5 on the back plate and being adapted to be expanded at their other ends by means of an hydraulic actuator 3. The brake shoes are interconnected at the ends near the actuator 3 by an automatic slack adjuster 9, 10 and their other ends take the form of thrust elements 16 between which is a floating mechanical expanding device 17. As shown, a second automatic slack adjuster is provided between a pin 12 on the back plate and a pin 14 on the shoe 6, both adjusters comprising a slotted and internally-toothed tube engaged by a rod disposed internally of the tube and having matching teeth. The adjuster 9, 10 is connected between the shoe ends with clearance and a spring 11 abuts one side of the tube 9 to prevent the adjuster from rattling. A gearing 15 is disposed between the pins 12, 14. The mechanical actuating cam 17 floats on a radial rib provided on the head of a rotatable brake shaft and acts to spread the thrust elements 16 apart. In this case since the adjuster 9, 10 is strong enough to transmit the forces produced and the cam 17 is floating the brake acts as a servo-brake and to ensure freedom of movement of the shoe 6 a compression spring 25 is placed over the slotted tube of the second adjuster and bears against a pin 26 therethrough and the pin 12.
