Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0962918/C1/1> (wherein R1 and R2 are the same or different and are m- or p-methoxyphenyl groups, and R is a methyl or ethyl group) and non-toxic acid addition salts thereof, and their preparation by (a) reacting <FORM:0962918/C1/2> with Cl.CO.CH2R2, and reducing the resulting N-(analkyl)phenylacetamide of the general formula: <FORM:0962918/C1/3> or (b) condensing R1CH2CO.R with b -(mo p-methoxyphenyl)- ethylamine, and reducing the resulting Schiff's base of the general formula: <FORM:0962918/C1/4> optionally followed by acid addition salt formation in either case. These compounds may exist in optically active forms which may be obtained by resolving the racemates or by using an optically active aralkylamine starting material in the first process. Pharmaceutical preparations.-The compounds of the invention posses spasmolytic, barilytic and anti-acetylcholine activity and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations (e.g. tablets) containing them together with a carrier, with or without other active ingredients such as analgesics and tranquilisers.
