962,755. Electric motors. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 21, 1961 [July 26, 1960], No. 26523/61. Heading H2A. A synchronous or stopping motor comprises a permanent magnet rotor 17 capable of rotating about an axis A and two stator members 1, 2, each having a pair of flat coils 5 . . . 8 wound on cores 3, 4 and pole-plates 9 . . . 12 having axially-directed, interleaved poles 13 . . . 16. The rotor 17 is magnetized with alternate N. and S. poles around its circumference, the number of poles being the same as the combined number of poles of the two plates of either stator member. The motor may be used as a capacitor motor if the two coils of each stator member are connected in series. Alternatively the connections of the four coils may be switched (Fig. 2, not shown) so as to successively energize the coils in a specified order from a D.C. source.
