Abstract
962,379. Infusion packages. NATIONAL TEA PACKING CO. Inc. March 5, 1963, No. 8821/63. Heading B8C. A tea &c. infusion package comprises an infusion bag T, a flexible cover C and a string S which is attached to the top of the bag, passes through an aperture 12 in the cover, then around the cover to hold it against opposite side walls of the bag and is held in place by passing the free end 18 through a slit 16. In use, the string S is removed from slit 16 and the bag is suspended by holding cover C and allowing the string to slip through aperture 12 to be retained by a finger tab 20. After infusion, the bag is squeezed by means of the cover to expel residual fluid therefrom. A method of making the package comprises the steps of attaching a string to a bag T at station I, transfer of the bag to station II adjacent a web of coverforming blanks, where the string is threaded through an aperture 12 by a looper 22, transfer of the bag and a cover C, severed from the web by cutters 46, to a station III, during which movement the cover is folded by passage through a channel 54 (not shown) between plates 50 and 52 and finally transfer to stations IV, V where the string is looped around the cover, passed through slot 16 and supplied with a finger tab 20. Transfer of the bag from station I to stations II and III is carried out by means of an intermittently rotatable table 28. At station III the bag and cover enter grippers 64, 66 on a second table 58 which transfers the package to station IV. Grippers (not shown) move the bag between table 28 and station I where the string is attached to the bag by a staple 10 and string from a preceding bag is severed by cutters 34, fingers 38 at station II move the string into a position to be caught by looper 22 and at station IV grippers 76 pass the free end 18 of the string through slit 16.
