Abstract
962,352. Two-way transmission systems; telegraphy. PYE Ltd. Nov. 14, 1962 [Nov. 24, 1961], No. 42130/61. Headings H4P and H4R. In a circuit for controlling the transmission and reception of signals over a transmission line, a first transistor presents a high impedance to the line in the receive condition and applies the signals to the line in the transmit condition while a second transistor prevents the receiver amplifier from operating during the transmission of signals. As shown, incoming signals from the line L are fed to amplifier A over primary P and secondary S2 of a transformer and resistor R3. Cold cathode tubes V1, V2, V3 are cut-off and TR1 is therefore cut-off presenting a high impedance to the line, while TR2 is conducting so that the current through R2 applies a power supply voltage to amplifier A. When signals are to be transmitted one of the tubes V1, V2, V3 is fired. This applies a positive voltage to the emitter of TR1 and the base of TR2 so that TR1 conducts presenting a low impedance to the line, and TR2 is cut-off so that the power supply to amplifier A is removed. If V2 conducts, for example, TONE 1 is applied to the base of TR1 where it is amplified and applied to line L over winding S1. It is stated that the cold cathode tubes may be replaced by other electronic switches, for example triggered transistor types, and control of the amplifier may be effected by variation of the bias to the first stage.
