Abstract

961,989. Powder distributers. BRITISH CELLOPHANE Ltd. March 30, 1962 [April 13, 1961], No. 13366/61. Heading B2F. An apparatus for distributing powder at a measured rate comprises a rotatable cylinder 1, Figs. 1 and 2, having uniformly distributed powder measuring pockets 4 in its circumferential surface, mounted in a casing 2, a powder feed opening 6, a means, which may be a doctor blade 10, to trim surplus powder off the cylinder so that only powder carried in the pockets 4 is passed to a discharge outlet 7, communicating with an air inlet 8 and connected to a suction inlet 21 of a fluid ejector 22. Powder is thereby sucked out into the fluid stream. A counterrotating brush 19 may assist in the removal of powder from the pockets. Guard blade 9 and doctor blade 10 are spring urged against the cylinder surface to block off annular space 5. A feed hopper 14 may be vibrated by a hammer 16 or powder in the hopper may be fluidized by air under pressure, Fig. 6 (not shown) fed through a perforated annular plate surrounding the hopper outlet. Instead of blades 9, 10 the casing may be a close fit around the cylinder, Fig. 4 (not shown), and the edges of the inlet opening effect the trimming action. The air inlet to the discharge opening may be via a tube, Fig. 6 (not shown), having a row of holes, air sucked through which impinges on the cylinder and aids in removal of powder from the pockets. The fluid may be air, liquid or vapour. Specification 961,988 is referred to.
