961,921. Centrifugal separators. M. CHRIST. Jan. 8, 1963 [Jan. 9, 1962], No. 923/63. Heading B2P. [Also in Division H2] The rotor of a high-speed centrifuge carries a sector ring 10, the current induced in pick-up device 12 having a frequency dependent upon the speed of the rotor. When the induced frequency becomes equal to the standard frequency from generator G, detector 15 produces a direct-current to energize relay 6 and stop the motor M which drives the centrifuge. The ring 10 may be constructed in the form of a gearwheel disposed on a disc of insulating material through which the rotor shaft of the centrifuge passes. The pick-up device may comprise a winding mounted on an iron core, Fig. 3 (not shown). In another arrangement, the coil of the pick-up device 12 is energized with directcurrent, the sector ring 10<SP>1</SP> providing a periodic variation in the reluctance of the magnetic circuit. The A.C. signal so developed is applied through transformer 38 to amplifier tube 43, the amplified voltage being fed to inductance 47 coupled to oscillatory circuit 48, 49, which is tuned to the critical frequency. The output of the tuned circuit is amplified in tube 50 and then applied through rectifier 55 and filter 56 to amplifier 58 feeding relay 59 which disconnects the motor if the speed becomes excessive.
