Abstract

<PICT:0961863/C6-C7/1> <PICT:0961863/C6-C7/2> Articles to be cleaned or otherwise treated by immersion in a tank 10 are delivered to a platform 18 which is raised and lowered within the tank by means of a jack 25 connected by cables 38 to the platform in such manner that the platform's range of movement is at least twice the stroke of the jack. The jack has a fixed cylinder and a movable piston rod 27 which carries two pulleys 35 over each of which is trained a chain or other cable 38. One end of each chain is connected to an arm 37 secured to the tank body and the other end is passed over a fixed pulley 39 and a sprocket 40 and is finally secured to the platform at 49, Fig. 1. The tank may contain a heater 58, an aerator 59 and means 56 for jigging the immersed platform. The latter means comprises a rod carried by the support plates of pulleys 35 which rod alternately actuates valves 54, 55 which are arranged to increase and decrease the jack pressure respectively. Preferably the platform 18 is a rollerway so that a plurality of the tanks may be arranged in line for use in passing an article from one to another of a succession of treatments by immersion.
