Abstract

An alkaline dentifrice composition containing an aromatic flavouring material is characterized in that the flavouring material is stabilized by citric or ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, or a salt of these acids, together with an anti-oxidant of the phenolic type. Specified anti-oxidants are 4-phenyl-2 : 6-di-(tertiarybutyl) phenol, 2 : 6-di-(tertiarybutyl) paracresol, 2- or 3-tertiary butyl-4-hydroxy anisole and propyl gallate. The dentifrice contains 0.2 to 2% of the aforesaid acid or salt and 0.005 to 0.025% of the anti-oxidant. The flavouring agent may be peppermint or spearmint.
