Abstract

961,157. Filters for liquids; cleaning filters. FAIREY CO. Ltd. April 10, 1961 [April 8, 1960], No. 12693/60. Heading B1D. When filtering is stopped, compressed air is supplied through a solenoid valve 57 to cylinders 11 below pistons 22 and passes inwards through elements 12 stacked on outlet tubes 20 so that residual filtrate is driven up through the open tops of tubes 20 into a filtrate chamber 14 and out at 17. Next, a motor 46 is operated to draw down a spider 43 and, with it, lower pistons 23, tubes 20, stacks of elements 12 and upper pistons 22 until the upper pistons reach the bottoms of the cylinders 11. Compressed air is now admitted by solenoid valve 53 to chamber 14 from a chamber 50 and flowing in reverse direction through elements 12 blows the dirt from them into a dirt chamber 10. An air outlet 54 is provided. A liquid inlet manifold 29 for the filtering phase communicates with the lower ends of cylinders 11. The whole cleaning sequence is timer-controlled.
