Abstract
Connecting pipes or containers of polyvinyl chloride are coated with a cold-hardening polyester resin composition containing at least one unsaturated polyester produced using perhydro-bisphenol A (bis-(p-hydroxy-cyclohexyl)-dimethylmethane) and a solvent or swelling agent for polyvinyl chloride, the polyester resin layer is allowed to gel and further coated with another such polyester resin which however does not contain a solvent or swelling agent, and before the gelling of the second layer the pipes or containers are coated with a hydraulic cement composition which is allowed to harden. The polyester composition is a solution of one or more unsaturated polyesters, e.g. from maleic anhydride and ethylene and diethylene glycol, or from maleic anhydride and butan-1, 3-diol in an ethylenically unsaturated compound, e.g. styrene, with one or more peroxide catalysts, e.g. benzoyl peroxide, and accelerators, e.g. diethoxy-p-toluidine or cobalt octoate. The solvent or swelling agent may be cyclohexanone or tetrahydrofurane. The polyester resin may contain silica and a stabilizer, e.g. hydroquinone. The cement mixture may be a mixture of gravel, sand, cement and water.
