960,833. Control systems for consuming devices; electric currents converting. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 8, 1962 [Feb. 10, 1961; Aug. 31, 1961; Oct. 17, 1961], Nos. 5035/61, 31384/61 and 37169/61. Headings H2F and H2H. A system for controlling the current through a load 8 such as neon lamps fed from a pulsating D.C. source 9 comprises a controlled rectifier 10 in series and another rectifier 11 in parallel with the combination. When the rectifier 11 is fired a capacitor 15 fires reversely through rectifier 10 thus blocking it. The signals applied to terminals 18, 19 may be between one eighth and twice the supply frequency and are derived from the A.C. source 1 through an astable transistor network controlling a monostable circuit, the time interval between the two signals being varied to alter the conduction time of rectifier 10.
