[Also in Divisions F2 and G1] A testing machine for applying periodically varying stress to a shock absorber 19, leaf springs, cushion stuffing and lining materials, clutch discs with dampers, pneumatic suspension dash-pot or cushioning devices, and other devices having damped elastic movement, comprises a crank 12 driven by a motor and variable speed gearing which oscillates a rocker 4 pivoted at 5 through a rod 11. The rocker 4 is coupled to a stress transmitting slide 1 through a rod 3. The pivot 5 is carried on an arm 7 which is adjustable about a pivot 8 so that the pivot 5 can be moved from a position coincident with the pivot 9 of rod 3 to slide 1, when the amplitude of movement transmitted is zero, to a position indicated on a scale 10, where a proportionate amplitude of movement of slide 1 is obtained. A dynamometer 20 is provided together with displacement speed measuring devices 21, 22.
