A slip bowl B comprises a metal body 10 having a conical bore 14, an annular bushing 20 slidably seated in the bore wall and of metal harder than the body 10, and a split retainer ring 22 to secure the bushing in place. The ring 22 comprises at least four segments, the key segment 22a being provided with a projection 24 riveted in a hole 25 in the bowl.
