Abstract

Dirt penetration into the fibres of a textile is reduced by applying a layer of a solid, water-soluble or water-emulsifiable substance or composition of a waxy character other than partially neutralized stearic acid, to the surface of the textile by contacting the textile with the solid waxy material after washing. Specified waxy materials include solid polyethylene glycol and mono- and di-esters and ethers thereof with a fatty acid, solid fatty alcohols, solid mono-esters of di- and tri-basic acids with higher alkanols, solid mono-esters of di- and trihydric alcohols with monobasic acids, solid triesters of trihydric alcohols with monobasic acids and solid fatty acids, e.g. behenic acid. They may be mixed with a solid detergent, e.g. sodium dioctyl sulphosuccinate, and cast into sticks for ease of application.
