Abstract
The process of the parent Specification for preparing substituted thioureas of formula ArNHCSNRR1, wherein Ar represents an aryl radical, R represents an alkyl or cycloaliphatic radical, and R1 represents hydrogen or an alkyl or cycloaliphatic radical by reacting an alkyl, dialkyl or cycloaliphatic dithiocarbamic acid with a primary arylamine, is applied to mono or dichlorinated arylamines. The dithiocarbamic acid may be prepared by reacting carbon disulphide with the corresponding alkyl or cycloalkylamine and this preparation may be effected in situ. In Example (1) p-chloroaniline, carbon disulphide and dimethylamine are reacted together to form N-p-chlorophenyl-N1,N1-dimethylthiourea. Further examples relate to the preparation of N-2,4 dichlorophenyl-N1,N1-dimethylthiourea, isomeric monochlorotolyl-N1,N1-dimethylthioureas and isomeric dichlorotolyl-N1,-N1-dimethylthioureas by the process of Example (1). The products are herbicides.
