In an underwater well a pipe 23 is positioned in the well 19 and extends above the water bed 13, a support 24 resting on the bed being connected to the pipe by a universal joint 32. The joint comprises a partial sphere 37 welded to the pipe and engaging a bearing ring 35 secured to a ring 33 fixed to the support, hold down clips 45 being bolted to the ring 33. A housing 38 is fixed to the sphere and pipe.
