Following the positioning of the selector plate 1, a bail 17, Fig. 1, engaging a bolt 18, is pivoted by a bail shaft 19 to displace a printing bail 2 to the right, whereupon the preselected function slide enters the slot 1a, under action of a slide spring 6 and the bail 2 subsequently engages a projection 3a on the slide 3 to displace it further to the right so as to move its associated intermediate type lever 8 clockwise, which raises its concomitant type lever 10 to strike the platen 22 for printing the selected character. The slide 3 is reset by the spring actuated lever 8 in conjunction with the retracted printing bail 2 engaging an inclined surface of the slide opposite the projection 3a. The width of each slot 1a is such as to permit only one slide 3 to enter a slot to prevent clashing of type bars. Specification 939,156 is referred to.
