[Also in Division E1] The setting or drying time of multi-layer pressed or unpressed fibre reinforced plaster slabs is decreased by the application of dry pulverous plaster between wet layers of fibre reinforced paste. A paste of modelling plaster and glass fibre, and containing keratin waste products, alum, or synthetic resins for regulating the setting or hardening characteristics, is spread evenly on a shaping surface; and drymodelling plaster containing dihydrate is applied thereto prior to pressing at 5 kgm./sq. cm. Alternatively, plaster paste from two or more vessels is successively applied to a shaping surface with a fibre mat introduced into each layer, followed by a spreading of dry plaster. Cold-hardening synthetic resin with or without the addition of soluble or insoluble binding agents or other hydrophobic additives may be applied to protect the finished slab from moisture. Even setting of a multi-layer slab is ensured by variation of the proportion of water or by using additives which regulate the setting speed in successively applied layers.
