Drawings to Specification. Heading H3A. The mean frequency of a frequency modulated oscillator is stabilized by equally and oppositely (or similarly) frequency modulating an auxiliary oscillator of less than <SP>1</SP>/ 10 the other in frequency and applying the difference frequency (or sum frequency) taken from a mixer to a crystal frequency discriminator with output applied as A.F.C. to the modulator of the first oscillator. This modulator may be a pushpull energized ferrite modulator connected to the tuned circuit of the first oscillator and with separate A.F.C. control winding centre-tapped for push-pull control. The auxiliary oscillator may be a multivibrator applying its input to a control grid of a mixer valve, its other input, from the first oscillator, being applied to its cathode through a cathode follower. The modulation voltages for the main and auxiliary oscillators may be taken from the screen grid and anode respectively of a pentode valve, the screen grid output being applied to a double triode phase splitter and modulator.
